03/28/2015 2006 Nissan Murano SCAM

imageimageimageimageimage          So the other night on 0n 03/28/2015, I went on Craigslist (for the first time in my life) to look for deals on getting a car. This one popped out to me, due to being short on funds with my mom recently suffering from a stroke. “Gloria Cantrell” messaged me back this morning  on 03/30/2015 at 4:32am. The pictures go in order. Basically, I went on the Saint Augustine craigslist, or what I thought was it, and found her posting. After I copied her email down, I went to show my mother and the post was gone. I thought it was because of not being allowed to have contact info on the website, since I saw other posts where people wrote out their phone numbers like “21two-3two5-xxxx” I felt bad for Gloria and I’m really glad that I wanted to call my mom with every update and took my time to research and find a site like this one to make sure that what I was doing was safe. I Obviously do not have money for scams as the money my mom was going to use to buy me the car (My car just died as the motor was breaking apart) was from her income tax and people like this feel that it’s okay to do this and LIE. Now “Gloria” is being EXPOSED.

Thank you so much for your prompt response.

Please take a few moments and read my email carefully, I know it is long, but I will explain all the details about the car and the transaction. At the moment I’m stationed at Barcelona, Spain. making final preparations before deploying to Afghanistan with the U.S. Convoy.

The car is already at our Military Logistic Department in Scott Air Force Base, in IL, crated and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the car to your home. The shipping is free for you. Since the car is in a military base, with no access you can not go there and take it, only the Logistic Department can deliver it, because the car is in their custody. Shipping may take anywhere between 2 to 4 business days depending on the destination. All documents you need for ownership, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the car .

For the payment I would like to use eBay as a third party. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the car and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the car . So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 10 days to inspect the car . If you decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for both of us.

The info’s that I requested was all I need. I’ll prepare the shipping and then contact eBay to start the transaction between us. From what I know in maximum 1 hour from the moment I start the transaction they will contact you by email and let you know all the transaction terms.
Keep me update with any news from eBay.

The vehicle is still available for sale. The transaction will be managed by eBay Motors; I’m affiliated to their program and since they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability during online transactions I’m going to sell the vehicle only by their service. They will act as a neutral third party. Giving the nature of this transaction please note that my sale terms are final and non-negotiable.  Here are the details on how the deal will work:

1. First of all I need the following information from you: Your full name, full shipping address.
2. After I receive your information I’ll forward it to eBay Motors. They will process our transaction and provide us further details (invoice, buyer and seller’s protection policy, payment instructions and more).
3. If you agree with eBay Motor’s terms and decide to complete the transfer, they will validate it and will authorize me to start the shipping process. Shipping costs are included in the vehicle’s price because I’ve won a free shipping some time ago so you don’t have to worry about paying any other additional costs.
4. After you receive the vehicle you’ll have a 5 days inspection period, while you can test drive and inspect the vehicle, you can even take it to an independent mechanic for inspection. So this won’t be a sight unseen deal for you.
5. If you like the vehicle and decide to keep it, the vehicle can be registered on your name without any problems and you’ll have to let eBay Motors pay me. eBay Motors will transfer the funds to me only once you have approved them to do so!!
6. If you decide not to buy the vehicle, which I really doubt, eBay Motors will completely refund you and I’ll have to return the vehicle on my costs.

Sorry for such an ample email but I wanted to clarify everything before proceeding further.
So, if you want to own this beautiful vehicle please reply with the requested info so I can initiate the deal through eBay.

Craigslist Scam: John Deere 757 ZTrak Lawn Mower

When it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

(click on thumbnail for the full-size image)

Here is the e-mail response I received:

Hi, First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my Lawn
Mower (2008 John Deere 757 ZTrak Lawn Mower ). I sell it at this price
($ 2,300 ) because i just finished the divorce with my husband. It has
only 134 hours!!!The Lawn Mower is paid off.I bought it new and has
only been adult ridden and garage kept. This Lawn Mower runs as good as
a new one and has no dings, dents, or scratches. in this moment has low
hours 134 hours .12 mph ground speed, climbs hills and turns on a
dime.  Kawasaki 25-horsepower V-Twin engine, tires are like brand new,
no dents, no damage, used very little on blue grass lawn.  This is a
Commercial Grade zero-turn lawn mower preferred by professionals and
farmers. The divorce has finished 6 months ago and the Lawn Mower is
mine now. After the divorce I was forced to buy a new house. Following
the financial crisis I can’t afford to pay the bank and I decided to
sell the Lawn Mower. It has only been adult ridden and garage kept. As
you can see by the pictures it is in excellent condition. The Lawn
Mower is located in Bismarck North Dakota, if you want to buy it. I’m
very busy with my job and I’m out of town so I can’t meet in person
with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my Lawn Mower over
the Internet.Regarding the payment I request only secure pay, I prefer
the payment to be done using eBay services (I will receive the payment
only after you receive and inspect the Lawn Mower and only if you agree
to buy it). We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated
at eBay and I have a purchase protection account. The vehicle was listed for sale
in an auction on eBay but I have removed the add because of some
‘serious’ buyers . They promissed they will buy the vehicle from me but
they proved not to have the money to pay for it .The list price is
$2,300. I will pay for shipping and handling(the loan of my previous
buyer didn’t get approved and he paid the shipping costs) so there
won’t be any additional shipping costs). If you are interested in
buying it please provide me your full name and address for shipping so
I can initiate the deal through eBay. I will wait your answer (if you
are interested to buy) very soon.

I started to search for “craigslist ebay buyer protection divorce” to see if it was a scam because putting ebay in there seemed fishy. My suspicions were correct and there are several other similar incidents.

Craigs List 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition: Jessica is up to something!!!!

I think Jessica is up to a great scam!!!!

While searching for a vehicle on Craigs List I came across this nearly too good to be true listing for an immaculate Expedition.  I found it listed on several different cities listings.  When I emailed to inquire about the vehicle this was the response I got.

The car it’s still available, has 18,583 miles, automatic transmission. It’s in perfect condition, no engine problems (8 Cylinder Gasoline), no accidents/liens/loans. Exterior no scratches, never been repainted, interior no rips/tears/stains, never smoked inside. I have all the car’s manuals, 2 spare of keys, clean title, documents. This Ford Expedition was my son’s car, he loved it very much, but he didn’t enjoy it…He died in a bike accident 9 months ago and now…I don’t need it anymore. It brings very bad memories to me and I want to get rid of it….The price is $3,800.00.
Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through eBay’s Vehicle Purchase Protection Program. I just need your full name, full shipping address, along with your home/cell # so I can open a case (with no further obligation or fees). eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need.
We hope to hear soon from you.

May God Bless you Every Day,
Jessica & Martin Brown

P.S: Here’s the VIN # 1FMPU18L1YLA06242 so you can run a CARFAX Report just to make sure you know exactly what you’re buying!!!

After that sappy response I emailed :

I got back on the internet and looked at the pictures on the link from your email.  I actually had your add printed out.  I seen it was listed on both the Kansas City and Des Moines Craigs List links.  Where exactally is the Expedition located or where could I meet you to look at it?  We are willing to drive to you to view it.  I don’t understand the ebay Protection thing, so I would like to speak to you via phone.

Again, I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Please contact me ASAP at %%%[email protected]@@-####.  Thank you.
Jessica’s reply:
Hello again Elizabeth,

I appreciate your serious intentions in making the deal on the spot, however we decided to post the car on several cities so we can sell it faster. I also choose to use the services of eBay Purchase Protection Program (Buyer Protection Plan) as they provide the most reliable assistance in which regards the on-line sales.
Let me tell you that my car is located in Morrow, Georgia right now at DAS( Dependable Auto Shippers ) and eBay Purchase Protection offers you a 10 days inspection period and also an Agent will assist you during this period (time of 10 days) with all that you need. The shipping will be made by DAS-Auto Shippers in a sealed container with their 3 days door-to-door Program. Also you will have to decide if you want to keep the car only after your 10 days inspection period. I will have to pay for the shipping prior to get my car shipped and also if you decide that you don’t want to keep my car I will have to make arrangements so I can get my car back. There are no hidden fees or something like that. You will receive the car with the clean title already signed on your name, bill of sale, two spare of keys, & all the paper work.

So let me know if you would like to register you as my client and start the process asap! If so, I will need your full name, full shipping address along with your home/cell # so we can get the ball rolling. After I will register you as my client, they will contact you by e-mail and also by phone with all the information that you need!
Very respectfully,
Jessica & Martin Brown

I replied back:
I am very interested in your vehicle, but in researching I cannot find any info on the ebay Protection Program you mentioned.  I am confused on how ebay would put a protection plan on a vehicle listed on Craigs List. Is there something I am not understanding? I am not trying to be difficult, I just have questions and would like to speak to you in person if it is possible.  We recently have also had a tough time at things and just need a vehicle and I am trying to protect us.  Would you be willing to talk on the phone and help me to better understand this process?
The next morning Jessica replied:
Hello again Elizabeth,

Let me explain you now how this eBay Purchase Protection Program works. First I have to open a case with your name and your address. After that, they will contact you with an Invoice and also by phone( The Agent who handle our Transaction will assist you during this period ).  You will have to pay for the car price directly to them, not to me and they will keep the funds until you decide if you want to keep the car or not ( the 10 day inspection period ).
I will have to make a reservation at DAS and pay prior to have the car shipped. In 2 to 4 working days the car will arrive at your home address with the original title, bill of sale, plates, paper work, etc. After you test it, check it by a mechanic, you will have to announce them that you want to keep the car or not! If YES you will have just to register the car on your name…if NO I will have to pay for the shipping again and get my car back! There are no hidden fees or something like that!
Let me know.

Thanks a lot!
Jessica & Martin Brown

I replied explaining I researched ebay protection program and ebay only protects merchandise/transactions from their site.  There is no way she could send me plates for a vehicle, I would have to register it myself in my county office.  I am aware of scams with all her key words, ie: ebay protection, DAS shipping, 10 day inspection period, photobucket, etc.  I told her if this is a true deal/sale she will contact me via phone and allow me to drive to Georgia to view the vehicle and pick it up myself and if not she can forget I ever contacted her.  I will not be scammed!!!  I am sure glad I got a bad feeling and did some research!!!!!!!

eBay Scam

I’m sure that this has been reported many, many times but perhaps I can add something. I’ve been an eBay seller for quite some time & never had a problem until 9/25/2010.

My listing for a piece of sterling flatware became a listing to sell 70 iPhones at $700 per phone. Fortunately, I caught it & ended the listing after I had “sold” one.

I immediately did the “right” thing & reported it to eBay Trust & Security and IC3 – seeming complete lack of interest.

I started doing a little research & to my amazement, there is a gaping hole in eBay security & the hijacked listing scam has been going on since at least 2006.

Shocked, I sent a certified letter to John Donahoe & attempted to start a discussion in the eBay Trust & Security forum where I was met with ridicule, scorn and posts telling me “it was all my fault”. I was also banned from the forums yesterday for my violation of community standards. Obviously, some people take offense to the truth and continued to hit the “report” button.

I also found another hijacked listing for iPhones (as I found out, hijacked listings are very common on eBay) and “ordered” three from the seller. I have a very professional looking invoice from the “eBay Seller Program” instructing me to send money via MoneyGram to the eBay agent Samson Magid, 10 Old Pye St, London.

I’ve never used MoneyGram – Could the money be picked up at any MoneyGram office if you had a Samson Magid id without trying to verify an address?

I have a pretty complete record including my hijacked listing, my machine state at the time of the hijacking & the email conversation when I “purchased” three iPhones off another hijacked listing that occurred a few days later.

Obviously, someone is getting a lot of eBay passwords and there is no unknown machine positive verification nor will eBay give me the IP address of the machine that was used to hijack me listing.

My next question, is to ask about known vulnerabilities, such as cross site scripting, when you use Google Chrome. I was told that “obviously” the hijacker got my password from a phishing site. Sorry, but I don’t follow unverified links in email, delete.

I have two email address for this criminal – [email protected] & [email protected]

UPDATE It’s back!!!!!

The scammer just posted a hijacked eBay auction. It will be taken down soon but while it’s up, you can see it at:

Scammer used  [email protected]

UPDATE Perhaps I have nothing better to do with my life 🙂 The criminals have morphed their technique a bit and this is their latest effort, eBay auctions instead of Buy It Now. Check the link posted and closed while the seller was sleeping. Accepting only AMEX, I doubt any money was actually lost from the auction – the Buy It Now from the description is where they’re trying to land the fish. Link may be poofed at any time.

Latest email: [email protected]

UPDATE The scammers won’t leave this poor guy along. Within 15 minutes of the last auction ending, they reposted it:

As of now this is an active auction.

Question? When will eBay stop this nonsense?
