I believe I was a victim of a scam using the craigslist and was wondering if you can get me all of the information I can get on these people so I can attempt to get my money one way or another. I can send you all of the information I have if you would like to attempt it. I purchased a 2004 Lincoln Navigator for $2430.00 from a Sheila Russell claiming to be in Fort Belvoir, MD and needing to sell before she had to leave for duty on Feb. 5th. I wired the money to what I thought was an ebay buyer protection, which turned out it wasn’t. So now I would like to know everything you can find out about them.

beware of anything coming from the email address ending in usmilitaryoffice.com.  nothing but scammers!!!!

Hello again,

Right now I’m located in Aviano, Italy. I’m in the Air Force and i have to stay here for the next 2 years.

The reason of selling it, is that the registration of a car with US standards in an European country will cost me up to $5000 on inspections, modifications and paper work.

I am not so familiar with online sales and I decided to use a service from an business-specialized company, eBay Motors Vehicle Purchase Protection (VPP).

The payment will be completed to eBay Motors. After you receive the car, inspect it (for 3 days) and register it on your name, eBay will release the payment to me. If, by any reason, you won’t be satisfied with it ( even though I can assure you that it is exactly as described), you can refuse the car and ask for a full refund of your deposit, no questions asked. You will keep the car for few days until i will find another buyer in your area, and there will be no need for you to ship the car back. I think this is more than fair for both of us.

I will handle the shipping. The car will be shipped via US Air Military Cargo, so i will not pay shipping fees. You will get the car in 4-5 days.

The deal WILL BE MADE UNDER THE eBay Motors RULES AND POLICIES. Both of us will be protected. I WILL NOT DEAL OUTSIDE EBAY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

If you want to move forward, I will need to know your full name, shipping address and phone number. Once I will receive your details, I will forward the details for our transaction to eBay Motors, and after that, they will send us all the instructions of the transaction.

I have my US cell phone with me so if you want to call me, you can find me at +1 (650) 488-8074

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Me and my boyfriend were actually looking into this car until we decided to google the seller I am very glad we did. Here is the e-mail i revieved from the “seller” . Again with the if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

Hello there,

My name is Ronald Williams and I am the legal owner of this beautiful and rare 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS 80,051 miles. It has Black exterior. This car has been extremely well maintained, runs and drives excellent. No accident, clear title, free of encumbrances and liens.I bought it when I was serving in Lakewood, CA.I have dropped my price to $1,700.00 (purchase price) since this is an urgent sale and I need to sell it before I will be deployed in Afghanistan with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home. I have decided to use eBay for this sale. The car is already at our Military Logistic Department form Lakewood, U.S. Army, crated and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the car to your home. I will offer a 10 days period to inspect the car from the moment you receive it. The shipping will be free for you! I’m currently stationed in London, United Kingdom for about 1 week before I will be deployed to Afghanistan. This is why I must sell it before that.
If you agree with my price $1,700.00 I need your FULL NAME AND ADDRESS for title transfer and shipping process, after I will inform eBay that I have a buyer! I will forward your details to them and then you will receive an invoice (with no further obligations or fees). Like this you’ll be able to talk with them directly and ask all you want to know.

PS: If there are any questions left please don’t hesitate to ask. I can provide you more photos & details if you are interested to buy it.

Thank You,
Lt. Ronald Williams

Hello again,

I’m sorry for the delay in my response but I have a lot of work in casino. The boat is already at the shipping company in Birmingham – Alabama, crated and ready for the shipping. The shipping process will take between 4-5 days, depending on your location. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them.
As I said in the first email I work as a casino dealer on a cruise ship and I can’t meet you or bring you the boat, so that’s why I am using a shipping company.
Since this is an online transaction I wanted the both of us to be safe so for this deal I am using eBay Purchase Protection, and that means that you have 5 days from the time you receive the boat to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here is how it works:
1.First of all I will need the following details from you:
- Full Name
- Full Shipping Address
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay Purchase Protection.
3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices.Your funds will be 100% insured by eBay Purchase Protection.
4. eBay Purchase Protection will contact me and I will ship the boat to you. After you receive the boat you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the boat. If you will buy it, then I will receive the payment.
5. If you will decide that you will not buy the boat, I will have the shipping company come pick up my boat.
If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed!

Thank you,
Peter Lawson [lawsonpeter363@gmail.com]

Here is the Craigslist ad you want to avoid, folks- classic response to emails seen many times over on this sight, stating that transaction would be conducted through ebay motors. Classic “if it’s too good to be true” scenario.

tiffany parker is at it again.  This time is was a 2004 Camry for $2400.  Thank god my brother checked the ad out and we didn’t proceed with the sale.  Turned her into Ebay as well.

Hi,
The car is in perfect condition, no electric problems, no accidents/liens/loans. No scratches, never been repainted. I have all the car manuals, title, documents. I’m selling this car because my child of only 19 died 4 months ago in a car accident,a drunk driver hit him and his fiancee. He was with his fiance’s car coming to our home at his little brother birthday of 10 years old. The car belonged to my son and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it. The last price is $2,400. Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program.I just need your full name, full shipping address, home/cell # so I can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need.We will take care of the shipping so don’t worry.
We hope to hear soon from you.

I was diverted to a free scanner by PC Cleaner Pro, after typing in a search for adobe reader update.  I thought I had seen this product advertised on CNBC or CNN, and the website was “Microsoft Approved”, had the BBB logo, the VeriSign Trusted and Intel Partner logos, so I ran the scan.  I had many problems listed after the scan, so I bought the Cleaner for $39.94.  When I downloaded and ran the “Fix All” option, there was a hangup.  I called the troubleshoot number provided and allowed the tech to share my computer to “see what is causing the problem.”  Right, dumb very dumb move.  After much to-do from the tech, he offered to clean up my “csrss.exe trojan” that was busy duplicating files and shutting down stuff – for only $250.  When I said no, he offered a special deal for just $100.  When I said no, he hung up on me.  I uninstalled the software and ran my ESET scanner and there was no trojan.  I changed all of the passwords on my money accounts and am daily monitoring every balance and transaction.  My “csrss.exe” process was the legitimate system file (I learned there really is a csrss.exe trojan – it is given that name to make you think it is just the system file running.)  The company who sold PC Cleaner Pro’s product to me refunded my money through Paypal after I put in a claim and cried scam.  I reported it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov)  and am posting the details every chance I get.  This company makes more than one scan product.  Any search for PC Cleaner Pro Scam will give you an education.  However, I have also learned there are “some product name scam” searches that will lead to a legitimate looking review of the product, endorsing it.  That in itself is often a scam.  Be careful.  Stay safe.
