PC CLEANER PRO
I was diverted to a free scanner by PC Cleaner Pro, after typing in a search for adobe reader update. I thought I had seen this product advertised on CNBC or CNN, and the website was “Microsoft Approved”, had the BBB logo, the VeriSign Trusted and Intel Partner logos, so I ran the scan. I had many problems listed after the scan, so I bought the Cleaner for $39.94. When I downloaded and ran the “Fix All” option, there was a hangup. I called the troubleshoot number provided and allowed the tech to share my computer to “see what is causing the problem.” Right, dumb very dumb move. After much to-do from the tech, he offered to clean up my “csrss.exe trojan” that was busy duplicating files and shutting down stuff – for only $250. When I said no, he offered a special deal for just $100. When I said no, he hung up on me. I uninstalled the software and ran my ESET scanner and there was no trojan. I changed all of the passwords on my money accounts and am daily monitoring every balance and transaction. My “csrss.exe” process was the legitimate system file (I learned there really is a csrss.exe trojan – it is given that name to make you think it is just the system file running.) The company who sold PC Cleaner Pro’s product to me refunded my money through Paypal after I put in a claim and cried scam. I reported it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov) and am posting the details every chance I get. This company makes more than one scan product. Any search for PC Cleaner Pro Scam will give you an education. However, I have also learned there are “some product name scam” searches that will lead to a legitimate looking review of the product, endorsing it. That in itself is often a scam. Be careful. Stay safe.

I also fell for this. Don’t do it. They don’t want to fix any problems they want to sell you stuff that may or may not work. Their hub is supposedly in Florida and the actual staff is in India. It almost seems like they’re taking a survey and it has nothing to do with why you called. It seemed to be taking a long time for him to figure out what was going on and I asked how much longer and I was asked if I had something better to do. And also if I knew what the difference between a technician and software was. Is this a joke or what?? Don’t do it! It appears to be free and after the “free” scan tell you have all kinds of problems. Then said the cleaner would prevent things but not fix them ???? Yeah ok.
