New Craigslist auto scams – lots of them

What I’m reporting here is the result of a “general scam” search I decided to do today. I haven’t done one of these in a long time because they take a long time to do. But I decided it might be a good idea today because it seems like the number of scams I’m seeing on Craigslist is growing. That number went way down in July, I think because CL made some changes to its software. But it seems the scammers have recovered from all of that and gotten their own software rewritten, because they’re now doing just what they were before – lots of ads in lots of cities, and even multiple ads with the same title on the same day – something CL’s system is supposed to catch and stop but obviously isn’t. For example – in New York City alone I found 62 ads for the same 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid, with the exact same title in each case.

Today’s search was for vehicles from model years 2004-2009 that were priced from $1400 to $4000 and covered the entire US. It netted 1,377 ads, and that was just for today and yesterday; I found lots of others from before 9/27 that I just didn’t have time to collect. So please everyone, be careful when you’re looking for a vehicle on Craigslist. There is a lot of scam activity going on.

With that many scam ads you can probably guess I found a lot of email addresses – 70 to be exact, plus 2 ads using CL’s anonymous reply option and 3 using contact forms. Here they all are:
