jeanette.m.aprile@gmail.com – 1995 Chevrolet C/K pickup scam on Craigslist
Another “For sale by owner” ad on my local Craigslist. One line of text and one small picture – but the email address was inside the picture, which is a big red flag. But it was something that might have worked for me so I answered the ad. Here’s the first message I received:
My asking price for this car is $2,000.
Just let me know if you are still interested and where are you located.
Thank you,
Since it is a silverado it has power windows and locks, air conditioning, tilt wheel, and cloth interior. The body is in good shape there are a few dings but no major dents or rot. The cab corners and sills are perfect, there is a tiny bit of rust starting to form on the bottom of the passenger side door but that is it. The frame has surface rust but no heavy rust or scale, I bought this truck from out west and I regularly power washed underneath it in the winter, the rear bumper does have some rot though. It runs and drives great, recently I have added a new alternator, hoses, thermostat, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, air cleaner and changed the differential and engine oil, I kept a log book of what was done to the truck and when. The tires are E rated Good year MTR, the front tires are about 65% tread the rears are 90%. The interior has some stains on the carpet, but the dash, door panels and bench seat is in very good shape. The bed has a plastic bed liner, I took it out once to clean underneath and the bed is in very good condition. The paint is original and still has a nice shine except for the driver side fender flares have their clear coat peeling off, With 115,000 miles this truck has lots of years ahead of it and is a nice example of a 3/4 ton Silverado 4×4.
Aha – the classic “eBay scam.” (Well, it’s been around so long now *I* think it’s classic.) Anyway – it’s now reported to Gmail, Craigslist, and Dphoto. If you see anything with this address on it please don’t pursue it. Thanks.
