jeanette.m.aprile@gmail.com – 1995 Chevrolet C/K pickup scam on Craigslist

Another “For sale by owner” ad on my local Craigslist. One line of text and one small picture – but the email address was inside the picture, which is a big red flag. But it was something that might have worked for me so I answered the ad. Here’s the first message I received:

My name is Jeanette Aprile and I’m emailing you regarding the 1995 Chevrolet C/K Pickup 2500 I have for sale. It was always garaged and never smoked in. Never been damaged. It has no scratches, dents or something like that. No mechanical problems, no accidents. Clean title in hand. It does not need anything additional to function, has only 115,200 miles, automatic transmission, 5.7L 8 Cylinder engine
My asking price for this car is $2,000.
Here are the pictures with the car : http://pickup.dphoto.com/#/album/82797i
Just let me know if you are still interested and where are you located.
 Thank you,
Jeanette Aprile
One of my questions wasn’t answered so I replied repeating the question. Here’s the 2nd message:
Hi, yes its a 4WD and a 350 v8 engine.

Since it is a silverado it has power windows and locks, air conditioning, tilt wheel, and cloth interior. The body is in good shape there are a few dings but no major dents or rot. The cab corners and sills are perfect, there is a tiny bit of rust starting to form on the bottom of the passenger side door but that is it. The frame has surface rust but no heavy rust or scale, I bought this truck from out west and I regularly power washed underneath it in the winter, the rear bumper does have some rot though. It runs and drives great, recently I have added a new alternator, hoses, thermostat, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, air cleaner and changed the differential and engine oil, I kept a log book of what was done to the truck and when. The tires are E rated Good year MTR, the front tires are about 65% tread the rears are 90%. The interior has some stains on the carpet, but the dash, door panels and bench seat is in very good shape. The bed has a plastic bed liner, I took it out once to clean underneath and the bed is in very good condition. The paint is original and still has a nice shine except for the driver side fender flares have their clear coat peeling off, With 115,000 miles this truck has lots of years ahead of it and is a nice example of a 3/4 ton Silverado 4×4.

Anyway, I’m currently located in Augusta, ME because I got a new job here and the car is here with me. The car is in perfect condition and not has any mechanical or electrical problems. The car was my husband`s as he loved it very much, but he did not enjoy it as he died in a IRAQ 7 month ago. It brings very bad memories to me, I want to get rid of it.
From the beginning you have to know that I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services. We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account. I supposed to ship the car to other buyer but then he told me that he has a financial problem and is no longer interested. He already paid the shipping charges. So, the shipping is free. I will take care of it and I will send the car with all the papers ( title, bill of sale, full service records, owner’s manual, books, etc ). You will have a 7 days inspection period after delivery. During that 7 days testing period I will not be able to get any money until you confirm to eBay that you are satisfied with the product you received. If you are a serious buyer, you have to email me your full name and full shipping address in order to open a case with eBay. They will contact you and give you more details about terms, buyer protection, payment instructions, shipping, invoice, etc. I await your email with the requested details so we can move forward.
Thank you,
Jeanette M Aprile

Aha – the classic “eBay scam.” (Well, it’s been around so long now *I* think it’s classic.) Anyway – it’s now reported to Gmail, Craigslist, and Dphoto. If you see anything with this address on it please don’t pursue it. Thanks.
