2003 Land Rover scam in Austin and San Diego
There is a seller/poster on at least two Craigslists at this link: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/ctd/2095597182.html in San Diego, California, and the exact same listing is shown in Austin, Texas at this link: http://austin.craigslist.org/ctd/2095056801.html.
I nearly bought into it and was prepared to purchase the vehicle today until I looked into the Ebay Vehicle program the seller insisted on using. The terminology and process the seller’s using is almost verbatim that used in the scams reported by buyers who got ripped off. Below is the seller’s email response last night to my earlier inquiry about purchasing the vehicle:
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in buying my car. Let me tell you a few words about the car. It’s a 2003 Land Rover Discovery II SE, in perfect condition, with no need for additional repairs, no scratches, dings, special marks whatsoever, never been involved in any accidents. The interior looks great (NO SMOKING). It has 36,280 miles . It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name. The price is not negotiable , $2,490.00 is my last price.I sell the car at this price because I cannot enjoy it due to my job(I work as a dealer on a cruise ship) and I’m a single woman and I have nobody close who can use it.
All documents, including owner’s manual, clear title and a bill of sale on your name will be provided along with the car. Also about payment and shipping I will use only eBay vehicle protection program so we can both be protected.I just need your full name and address so i can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).

First of all, reviews on this particular vehicle show a repair nightmare. I’m new to car purchasing and should’ve known the price was too good to be true. Fortunately, I caught this before it went any further.
