Craiglist car scam – richard.alvord@gmx.scam

Posting: 1995 Honda Passport $1450; Below was his reply to my email inquiry:

Hello Maria,

You have to know that the 1995 Honda Passport 4WD V6. I am selling is 100% working and
great looking, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage. The title is clear.
It has 99,936 miles.As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal
closed only through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected.
You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car.
ONLY AFTER you receive the car and inspect it (for 5 days) eBay will release the payment to
me in this way we are both protected. I am located in Athena ,Greece and I was sent here to
improve the military relationships between our country and Greece. One month ago,i moved
here and brought the car with me, but now we have to sell it back in the United States
because In order to be able to register this car here, I would have to pay very high
import/custom taxes. My final price on it is $1450. If you will take it for this price, I
am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air
Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in
your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. You will receive the car in
about 4 days. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail
your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You
will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.

My response to him:

THANKS, BUT NO THANKS…. We are a family of five with one income and no car. My brother and sister have managed to rally together with their generous hearts, to purchase a decent car so that we may improve our situation. DECENT is the operative word here, and by the looks of it, this is PURE scam… We are not in a position (nor anyone is for that matter) or do we have the luxury to throw down this kind of money only for it to be a hoaxed! SHAME ON YOU! Karma is a bitch and you will definitely get yours…

I almost fell for this because my brother is also in the military, but with the grace of god and a lot of sense, I became skeptical and decided to look into scams relating to “Ebay Vehicle Protection” and discovered that your chosen words mirror that of a successful scammer…. Needless to say, another struggling family like myself has been duped by your evil ways… I am outraged and repulsed by this and can only wish that you will be caught sooner than later so that we may be rid of people like you!
