Craigslist 2005 Polaris SPORTSMAN 700 4×4 Scam
Got a spoofed eBay “eBay Motors VPP” email with wire transfer instructions. Story from “Ronnie Thornton” was he flew for a cargo company but was going to ship via DAS to “anywhere in the USA.” Why not use his own company? Because it wasn’t legit.
Spoofed email had confirmation fax number that is not in service. All other links on the email went nowhere. Something wasn’t right.
If you get one of these types of ‘winning the lottery’ deals always act as though you’ve sent the money (when you really haven’t) and check the confirmation process for accuracy. Look at the header banner info and google the sender’s email after the @ sign.
The internet is good … and bad when the crooks use it too. Beware, it can really smell like a rose and become a rat within minutes.
Double check the deal about 5 times before doing anything.
