Scam on Craigslist – 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S * – $2930 (Chelsea)?

RE: * 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S * – $2930 (Chelsea)?

Points on this scam:

  1. This story is almost identical to this post: http://tooltexas.wordpress.com/2010/06/24/another-joker-trying-to-scam-you-2004-volkswagen-passat-gls/
  2. Now shipping is free, he is simply going to have the our military services ship it back, and we all now better than that.
  3. eBay according to him is in the escrow business.  eBay is not in the escrow business and Buyer protection only works on things purchased on eBay. (http://reviews.ebay.com/How-to-Avoid-Escrow-Scam-and-To-Pay-or-Be-paid-Safely_W0QQugidZ10000000003992204).
  4. This is an obvious scam.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BeWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

You have to know that the 2006 Nissan Altima I am selling is 100% working and great looking, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage. The title is clear. It has 33.100 miles.

As I know that my current situation is pretty special I want the deal closed only through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program in order for you to be 100% protected. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and inspect it (for 5 days) eBay will release the payment to me; in this way we are both protected. I am located in Madrid,Spain and I was sent here to improve the military relationships between our country and Spain. One month ago, my wife moved here with me and brought the car with her, but now we have to sell it back in the United States because In order to be able to register this car here, I would have to pay very high import/custom taxes. My final price on it is $ 2930. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping. It will be shipped from here by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place. You will receive the car in about 4 days. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all the transaction payment and shipping details from them.

Thank you and have a nice day,
Lt. Kevin Dunn

I recently(24 june 2010) got an email from the same Katharine Newton for the 2005 Nissan Altima SE V6. I totally fell for the deal since it seemed to good. I was so excited that I even looked up the carfax details for the car. Initially the replies to my queries were very quick. However when I kept asking many questions the replies just stopped. So I was curious about it and Google the details. Late night on the same day I came across the scam details. It made me really happy for being aware well in advance. In addition to the fact that I did not fall for this deal. I think one must always check online for all the available information before going ahead with a transaction. I also learnt that never buy a car without having a look at it “in person”. This was a real eye opener for me. The emails were exactly the same as seen in this forum.I really surprised to see that I am not the only one to come across such scams. If it has occurred in the past wonder why it continues further? Anyways am happy that I haven’t completed the deal. Thanks to all those who post such forums and details.
