My husband and I started looking at used cars & trucks to purchase on Craigslist recently, as we actually got a good deal on a used car about 3 years ago on there and thought we would try again.
We started our search and I had heard nothing of these scams before on the vehicles, but we almost fell victim to one as well. Thank God I had that feeling to do just a little more research before handing over money. So far in my search, every single person I have email regarding any type of “good deal” on a car has sent one of the types of emails:
Hello,
I do not sell my truck in Payments and I do not Trade! – VIN#: 5TELU42N25Z074660 – Engine: 4.0L V6 FI DOHC 24V – Transmission: Automatic – 4 Wheel Drive – Actual mileage of my car: 55213 – clean title. About the truck : it is in immaculate condition. No damages, no rust, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, never been in to an accident, in perfect working condition The truck comes with all the documents you need to register it (including clear title which you will receive included in the package).
Here you can find more pictures with the truck: http://s734.photobucket.com/albums/ww347/vschn31/
(if the above link does not work copy and paste it into a new web browser window)
I am selling this truck because I need money fast as I have to meet a mortgage payment deadline so this transaction must be completed fast as time is my main priority.
I’m an US Air Force Sgt. currently stationed in United Kingdom and the truck is here with me. It was bought in the US and shipped to United Kingdom, but it was never permanently registered here, the truck is still registered in the US. I decided to sell the truck back in the US.The shipping will take up to 7 business days and you will also have 10 days to inspect and test drive the vehicle from the moment it arrives at your place. There will be no extra or hidden taxes for you to pay since the truck is still registered in US. In case you decide not to keep the truck I’m responsible for shipping back costs.I must say that this is a US model truck. As I’m unable to travel in the near future and I don’t have anyone back home to help me with the sale I decided to sell this truck through eBay or craigslist. Our transaction will be entirely through eBay and we both will be covered.
The final price is $4,800 including shipping from United Kingdom to the US and delivery to your home address. So if you decide to buy this truck or need further information please get back
to me as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Sgt. Karew Edwin
So far, all of my response from sellers have been “Sgt.” in whatever military branch they are in….don’t even waste your time responding back.
And like I said, the list of perpetrating names and email addresses go on and on and on, so all we can do is flag them as we see them and hope to run them off. (somehow I doubt it though, as I found forums regarding these scams that date back to 2005!!!!!)
Happy flagging!!!
