AutoTrader- Carl Chappell- 2007 BMW 328i
This vehicle is posted on AutoTrader with a listing price of about $24,000. Also is a picture saying JUST REDUCED to $18,700. E-mails went fine until I asked for a phone number, which my boyfriend explained is important because a lot of scammers do not talk on the phone and his reply was its better if everything remains in writing. I asked to see the car and then he posted this “That’s not possible, since today I’m putting myself on a plane to Denmark in order to save what’s left of my business. This current crisis was like a hurricane to me and it’s the reason I’m selling this car so cheap.
In Denmark I have the chance to renegotiate some contracts with some business partners, but I desperately need to cash out my car – that’s why I made specific arrangements with eBay Vehicle Protection Program to handle my sale; the car is placed in their custody and they’ll also be acting like an escrow service for me.
So to be able to test drive and properly inspect the car, we’ll be dealing through them for the safety of both of us. To better understand how the process works, here’s a simple explanation:
- you give me your shipping address so I can start the transaction on eBay VPP and then to use it for shipping;
- they will review and accept our transaction and they will provide you with the payment instructions;
- you will make the payment to eBay VPP;
- they give me the confirmation that they received your payment to them and I will start the shipping;
- you receive the vehicle and inspect it,
- you will tell them that you want to keep the vehicle and only then they will send the money to me.
All car’s documents are in the glove box and you’ll receive them along with the car. eBay will hold the money until the car is delivered to you. You will have 5 business days for inspection. If the car is not like described you will have to ship it back at the end of the 5 business days on my expense and have your money back from eBay VPP.
In order to move forward I will need your full name and shipping address.
eBay will get in touch with you with further details and instructions.
Looking forward to hear from you,
Ben”
I never e-mailed a Ben before- he always signed Carl, and in previous e-mails he said the weekend would be fine to schedule an arrangement to view the car.
I’m posting this where ever I can!

The same guy has a 2007 Audi S4 Avant Quattro listed in AutoTrader. It is listed for $33,600 with a picture stating reduced $23,000. I emailed him inquiring about the vehicle and his name is also Carl Chappell. His email is carlchappelljr@gmail.com. I decided to research prices for the car and discovered the same ad in three different locations; Albuquerque/New Mexico, Madison Heights/Michigan, and Oakdale/Louisiana. That’s when an alarm went off in my head. I emailed him back asking where he is located and why it is listed in three different places, he has not replied as of yet. Thank GOD I found this posting!
