Scam via Margaret Campbell @ mc888444@msn.com

I found an unbelievable vehicle for sale on Oregonlive.com and began dealing with the “owner.” Margaret told me that she is a casino dealer on cruise ships so couldn’t enjoy her car. From the pictures the car is incrediable so why only $5,500? This was an obvious scam from the beginning and when I looked up scams using the eBay VPP I found email after email that used the exact same wording and “story line”. Is there a site that is training these people on what to say? After I called her bluff I simply never heard back from her. She is probably just busy on the ship!

Here are the emails…….

I will not be pursuing this purchase. I spoke to eBay motors today and they stated clearly that the vehicle protection program is not available unless the vehicle is listed and purchased off of the eBay motors site. I asked if these services are available if the item was listed but the auction has ended and they stated that No, it is ONLY available if the vehicle is purchased. You would have to list this again on eBay to have this protection program.  I’m feeling like this is not a valid sale.

Yvonne,

The car was listed on eBay but the auction has ended. We can make the transaction through eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection once the car was registered at eBay. So if you want to buy the car I will need the following details from you:
Full name
Shipping address
Phone #
eBay user ID
After I will have all this details I will forward them to eBay and I will proceed the order. After you will be approved to buy the car from me eBay will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal. Waiting your email with the requested details.

Thank you!
Margaret

I have researched the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program and it states clearly that this protection program “is offered protection only for eligible transactions on vehicles listed on eBay Motors site (eBay.motors.com)”.  I do not find your vehicle listed on the eBay site. Would you please let me know where I can find it?  The VPP clearly states that this coverage cannot be obtained for payment between seller and buyer on vehicles listed on any other sites.

Thank you,

Yvonne

Yvonne,

The VIN# is 2HNYD28387H519394. I have to tell you that I’m currently at work. As I already told you, I work as a dealer on a cruise ship and I left the car in Philadelphia at the shipping company. It’s already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere. You will receive all the documents of the car (owner’s manuals, keys, clear title, bill of sale) in order to register it under your name. If you are interested to purchase the car, I have done some researching and the best way to close the deal is through eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program. The transaction fits the Vehicle Protection plan and will be covered by eBay. Vehicle Purchase Protection reimburses buyers who are involved in a vehicle transaction through their program. The program provides reimbursement for all the situations that can appear in a transaction. The money will be sent to an eBay agent. After the payment is confirmed and secured by eBay I will start the shipping. The car will be in front at your door in max 3 days. From the moment you receive the car you have a 15 days inspection period. After the 15 days you have to decide if you want to keep the car or not. If you’ll keep it, the payment will be released to me. In case you will not like the car and decide not to keep it, you will have to ship it back and you will be fully refunded. If you agree I will need your full name and complete shipping address, your phone# and your eBay user ID.

Thank you!
Margaret

Hi, happy to hear from you. WOW, what an exciting job you have. I would like to purchase the car. I was hoping to make payment in full with a cashier’s check – are you willing to accept that? I would arrive to pick up the vehicle with cashier’s check in hand. If this is a problem just let me know.  I would plan to purchase the vehicle next Saturday, August 22nd.  In order to do this I need the vehicle VIN number to secure insurance on it prior to pick up.  I also would need your location for pick up.  You are welcome to call me at 541-548-6717 or 541-788-6421.  If there is anything you need from me, please call or email me.

Thank you,

Yvonne

Hi there,

I’m writing you regarding my 2007 Acura MDX. The car is in perfect condition, no scratches or any damages and it has a clear title. The car has only 12,800 miles on it. If you are interested in purchasing, the price is $5,500. I sell the car at this price because I can’t enjoy it due to my job (I work as a casino dealer on a cruise ship) plus that I have some personal problems. Regarding the payment I will use only eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program so we can both be protected. Looking forward to hear from you.

Thank you!
Margaret

    Hi Yvonne,

Boy does this string of Emails sound familiar. Let me share an example from my exchange with someone from Craigs list calling herself Staphanie Bryant of Stephanie.Bryant11@Yahoo.com:

    “Hi again,

I have to tell you that the car is already at the shipping company in San Francisco, CA . As I said in the first email I work as a dealer on a cruise ship and for this reason I chose to sell my car over the internet.
I want you to know that the transaction fits the Vehicle Protection plan and will be covered by eBay. Vehicle Purchase Protection reimburses buyers who are involved in a vehicle transaction through their program. The program provides reimbursement for all the situations that can appear in a transaction. The money will be sent to an eBay trust account managed by an eBay representative. After the payment is confirmed and secured by eBay I will start the shipping. The car will be in front at your door in max 3 days. From the moment you receive it you have a 7 days inspection period. After the 7 days you have to decide if you want to keep the car or not. If you’ll keep it the payment will be released to me. In case you will not like the car and decide not to keep it I will ship the car back on my cost and you will be fully refunded. If you agree I will need your full name and complete shipping address. Sorry for the long email. I have tried to touch all bases.

    Thank you!
    Stephanie Bryant”

Beware of this person selling (“selling”..that’s a laugh) a 2004 White Corolla S.

    Regards…Micadee
