This all appears to fit the profile of a scam... original contact via an ad on craigslist.

This 2001 Volvo XC70 Cross Country 2.4 Liter L5 FI 20V Turbo with 89,000 miles, runs and drives excellent. This car has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all. You will not have any problems with registration since it’s still registered in TX. with a clear title and it is free of encumbrances and liens. I am the second owner of this car, I bought it when I was serving in Little Rock Air Force Base, near Little Rock for my wife as a wedding gift, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions.

I have dropped my price to $4200 since this is an urgent sale and I need to sell it before Apr 10th. when I will be deployed in Iraq with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home. To conclude this deal in a timely manner, the financial part will be managed by the eBay’s Buyer Protection Program. They are acting like a third party in our deal. I’m located in Hancock Field AGS an US Military AFB in Syracuse, NY. making final preparations before deploying to Iraq, the car is here with me if you can come to pick it up and pay me in cash will be great. But, If you can’t manage to come here I can transport the vehicle for you at reasonable cost using a military carrier. The estimated shipping cost to just about anywhere in the US is about 150$ (all delivery cost included). Shipping can take anywhere between 2-4 business days depending on the destination. All documents, title, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the car.

- For the payment I would like to use eBay’s Buyer Protection Plan as a third party. They will keep your money until you get the vehicle and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the vehicle. Which means that you will have a 15 days inspection period before committing to buy the vehicle. You will be instructed to deposit the money to an eBay Safety Department account. They will hold and insure your money until you receive the vehicle in good condition. That is how their buyer protection policy is working.
